2011.jan.11 - JJ Cale Collection - The Silvertone Years - International Release February 7th, 2011
A collection chronicling JJ Cale's music released by Silvertone Records between 1989-1992, entitled The Silvertone Years, will have an international release on February 7th, 2011 from Sony Music. The physical CD, while not initially set for release in North America, will be available as a European import from outlets such as Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0046BU01I/). The disc features songs from JJ's Silvertone albums, Travel-Log and Number 10, check out the track listing at Sony Music UK site (http://www.sonymusic.co.uk/releases/2116/).
Whether the music is bluesy, jazzy, country, rock (or country rock), folk, or tinged with Spanish or even Flamenco guitar flavors, once you hear that guitar or the voice, you immediately know it's JJ Cale - an incredibly humble man whose very nature has inspired a deep emotional connection with die-hard fans worldwide. Enjoy the collection. At this time, JJ does not have any tour plans.
2010.nov.12 - More and more covers!
I will be doing an update to the 'covers' section in due time, I have many emails in the back log to feature. However my recent favourite I have just reviewed is by an artist Tom Eno of England. It is a refreshing mix between the original Spanish-influenced sound, yet brought into the current electronic-style genres of Bran Van 3000, et el. I highly recommend a listen.
2010.mar.10- American Routes interview
US Radio program American Routes has conducted a new interview with JJ Cale. It also includes many interesting Oklahoma-themed musicians, and songs.
Long time friend and bassist of the JJ Cale band, Bill Raffensperger has passed away this morning in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Bill was a very humble and kind soul who had a very warm personality. He played in several Tulsa area groups, including The Zigs, and a weekly gig with legendary Tommy Crook. Bill Raffensperger also appeared in the 2004 JJ Cale tour documentary "To Tulsa and Back: On Tour with JJ Cale". He also appeared on stage with Eric Clapton at the 2004 Clapton Crossroads Festival in Dallas, TX.
There is (yet another) band that plays solely JJ Cale covers. It was a project collaberation from several countries (Switzerland, Germany, etc) by several musicians to create an album for JJ's Birthday present last year. Has musicians Mike Warner and Albert Lee, to name a few. It's worth a listen!
I've also added a whole bunch of new photos from the '09 tour courtesy of Louise.
2009.apr.9- Seattle's Triple Door day 2
I wasn't there - but the consensus was that this evening was alot more energetic - especially with the guest guitarist Mike Campbell (from Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers) joining JJ on stage. I hope to receive and share photos from this evening soon!
2009.apr.8- Seattle's Triple Door day 1
Will, Deb, Ville and "Dutch" after show
Walt Richmond, Bill Raffensperger, and JJ Cale
Walt Richmond, Bill Raffensperger, JJ Cale and David Teegarden
It was a completely different venue than Aladdin. Sit down dining, expensive bottles of wine. But a great band up on stage. Opening act Lief Totusek had great world (African) music. Cale's set was the same fare from the previous night. Less dancing but definitely enjoyable! Tonight is the second night at the Triple Door and it's sold out! (There may be standing room if you show up EARLY (4:30 is good).
I met with Ville (pictured) from Finland, Woolybugger Scott from Vancouver, WA, and Mark from.. I think Portland. Also ran into a bunch of cool people I've never met before! Everyone was happy, dancing and just getting along. A magical evening! Get to the last two shows before they're sold out! It's worth it!
Click the photo above for more photos from Ville. More photos from this venue at my Google Picasa.
2009.apr.4- I'm a little behind the times but...
Tom Petty joined JJ Cale on stage in LA at the McCabe's gig.
This list was copied and pasted from Rosebud Agency. To find out if new shows are listed or, if a particular show was sold out, visit the Rosebud agency.
2009.jan.21 - Roll On......
New album released this coming Tuesday in the US. There will be 3 versions available, with different tracks on each (hmm).
Press release says there will be an NPR Fresh Air with Cale this week.
Press release also says March will have tour dates announced. Don't email me asking for any. They will be posted.
2008.dec.10 - Roll On......
New album artwork for "Roll On."
Can't wait to hear the new material!
2008.dec.03 - Happy Birthday to JJ Cale. He turns 70 on December 5th. My birthday was on the first as well - I'm now 27. Pushin' 30, as my brother-in-law says. Argh! :)
Well, I have some good news as well. We get to keep JJCale.Net. After waiting about a week for word back from Rosebud they said it's cool and we can keep the site for now. This brought a tear to my eye. Again, I know this is just a pet project but it's been a fun hobby that's been at the same domain for years! I didn't see the need for change.
I'm very happy with this outcome, and thank all of you for your support. I will be returning the two donations (THANK YOU) we recieved during this questionable time.
I will be keeping the donations form up for help with hosting and renewing the domain coming up next year though. As I said this has just been a pet project and I have poured tons of money into hosting it in the past. Thankfully, we have a kind host donating space right now but I'd like to make it right with them.
Thanks to everyone for their support and hope you have a great holiday season - whichever holiday you celebrate!
2008.nov.27 - Happy Thanksgiving to our US visitors. My best wishes and prayers to those in Mumbai and Thailand as well, facing massive terrorists attacks. May the world be at peace some day.
I've uploaded a bunch more videos to here and YouTube. I've added several tunes to the Samples page, specifically from Jimmy Boyd and Sunday Servants. There's some new promotional photos for "Roll On". I've put very basic info on the Discography pages.
So, I want to thank you all for your support and appreciation of the site for the last 10 years. And most appropriately... roll on....
Roll On, JJ Cale's first solo CD of new material in nearly five years is set for release February 24, 2009 on Rounder Records. Roll On follows Cale’s Grammy-winning, gold-certified 2006 album with Eric Clapton, The Road to Escondido. The title track features a previously unreleased collaboration with Clapton. Cale wrote and produced all twelve songs on Roll On, and plays all the instruments on most of the tunes as well.
2008.nov.15 - Cale's music knows no boundaries. Be it continental or language. Check out this cool version of Sensitive Kind in Russian.
2008.oct.17 - There has been no news lately of Mr. Cale. I've been meaning to do some updates recently but never found the time. I've recently relocated to Oregon and am enjoying the city and my job and new friends.
We've added new samples in our 2008 update section of the samples page. It is a 4 song transfer from a "Live at Last" vinyl record I've had around for some time. Enjoy listening.
Please be sure to check out a great JJ Cale cover baned from the Nederlands, "Talk to the Cat". They are simply phenomenal and are the closest recreation of his music that I've heard (without actually BEING the man himself).
Also I'm not sure why the videos aren't working properly. I'll fix that when I can.
2008.may.16 - Fixed video issues and added a few more! More on the way... and stay tuned to changes at the Shop. I will be selling rare collectables because well, I'm going to be traveling and need to get rid of everything!
2008.feb.12 - JJ Cale and Eric Clapton win the "Best Contemporary Blues Album" Grammy!
2008.jan.20 - We are slowly starting to put videos back up. I will not host them on YouTube, they are locally hosted. Therefore, I will only put a few videos up at a time to conserve bandwidth. Please enjoy and check back (probably) monthly for new videos.
2007.dec.22 - It appears that thanks to the Eric Clapton connection on "Road to Escondido", Cale has been nominated (with Clapton, of course) in category 67, "Best contemporary blues album" for the 50th Grammy Awards.
2007.dec.08 - JJ Cale had his birthday a few days ago. Many birthday wishes John from everyone in your fan base. Hope it was a good one.
2007.oct.24 - Many people have been asking about the fires in California and if they've been affecting JJ's home. A few days ago I hear the fires were pretty close, but reading up on Escondido.org it appears all evacuations are over and everything is back to normal. I'm not sure if his home is alright, but I am certain he and Christine have been able to get out if necessary.
2007.oct.16 - There's a new contest on the Official JJ Cale website to win an autographed Gibson ES-335. Apparently a few more will be given away on a few select radio station giveaways as well. Pretty cool!
2007.sep.30 - October 2nd the "new" album of 1970's unreleased material, "Rewind" will be released nationwide in the US. For details visit the official JJ Cale website.
2007.aug.10 - Web services restored thanks to our good friend Vinoo Samuel. He has donated web hosting for the site at no cost. Thank you, Vinoo!
A few things in the Cale news, obviously: According to the Official JJ Cale website, a new compilation of unreleased material is to be released in October. In talks on the Yahoo! groups, it appears another "comprehensive" set of unreleased tracks will be released depending on the sales of the October release. I'm sure it'll be out sometime anyway; just be a little longer. It seems their marketing Cale in the way the Beatles have been for years: release re-takes, re-edits, and unreleased material every few years to keep some money in the bank. Cool though, it should sound amazing.
Tour anyone? If I were a magic 8 ball, I'd say the future looks certain. But I'm not a magic 8 ball. So I could be just making things up. :) Stay tuned...
